5G is probably the biggest innovation leap in world of mobile. Following the dawn of the 5G era, OnePlus invested millions into research and development in order for their next generation of handsets to be a real contender in the superfast arena. Already making big waves in the smartphone market, OnePlus went in to 2019 with a clear challenge ahead – demonstrate the true power and speed of 5G.
In 2019, OnePlus’s 7 Pro was the first 5G smartphone to launch in the UK, on EE’s network. As a packed schedule of tech events and Consumer Live shows were planned, we knew that we had to disrupt each event, making OnePlus the standout brand.
Although 5G was always going to be the key topic of the year, we still needed to showcase an industry leading smartphone and the other amazing features of the 7 Pro, including its 90 Hz Fluid AMOLED screen.
We delivered a unique experience that was, quite literally, driven by 5G. Working with The Racing Bug, we created a bespoke 5G powered VR racing experience. Using the OnePlus 7 PRO as a VR integrated headset, guests could compete against each other on timed laps. With practically zero latency over 5G the race was viewed in real time and reduced reaction time.
We took the VR racing experience to EE Consumer Live at the NEC and attracted hour long queues with consumers desperate to get behind the wheel. The stand itself stood out in stark contrast to the sea of competitors with its bold and edgy design, truly reflective of the innovative tech start-up that OnePlus is.
